“Not to decide is to decide.”
The decisions you make shape your life.
Each choice you have ever made is the fundamental driving force that defines you and the experiences in your life.
The power of decisions should not be underestimated. Decisions are the constant milestones in your life from which you have an opportunity to choose, change, be still, move, transform, and evolve. They also offer you the precious gift of anytime.
There is no denying that decisions can be overwhelming sometimes. In my own experience I recognise how many times decisions have changed my life. That each decision made has opened or closed doors and lead me to this very place in space and time. I can recall when I was a child just how excited I would be when my parents asked me to decide, on the “simple things” in life, what did I want to eat for dinner, what did I want to wear, how did I want to celebrate my birthday, and so on. Making these decisions when I was young gave me a sense of maturity and responsibility. Now older, wiser and possibly more mature, I get to make decisions all of the time. I am an expert decision maker.
“The problem, simply put, is that we cannot choose everything simultaneously. So we live in danger of becoming paralyzed by indecision, terrified that every choice might be the wrong choice.”
Elizabeth Gilbert, Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage
I am on the current edge of a monumental decision that can change and transform my path. The first path leads me to the road less travelled and the second path has been tread before and then there is the other, the one we don’t talk about, the path of not consciously making a decision and hence choosing to live life by default. This last one scares me more than anything, especially when I realise how many times I have fallen prey to living my life by default in the past. So as I ponder on the decision I have to make today, I am reflective, accepting and considerate with foresight on my side.
“When faced with two equally tough choices, most people choose the third choice: to not choose.”
Jarod Kintz, This Book Title is Invisible
My personal awakening in all of this is the reason I share it with you. I have found that there are milestones in life when everything that seems impossible is also possible and the criteria simply depends on the decision that is made and is it in alignment with the direction you want your life to go?
If you are like me in any way, and want to re-ignite your passion, relieve stress and anxiety and live the life you dreamed you could, start by making decisions that move you in the direction of where you want to be. Get clear on what it is you want. Start now, decide to find something you love to do and then practice it daily.
The power of decisions are a wonderful gift that allow you to create the life you choose now.
